Wonderful Casa Clasica y Hermosa stays true to its historic Merida roots. This style was very popular in Merida’s heyday when it was one of the wealthiest cities in the world due to its heniquin millionaires. Many of these traditional homes have been neglected or replaced, but Casa Clasica y Hermosa has been treated kindly by time. It is now an updated version of the original 1800’s home, with modern plumbing, air conditioning, swimming pool and garage. None of these updates has, however, detracted from its original grandeur. All of the amazing original features are still showing off their beauty in style: pasta tile floors, hand-painted details, beautiful ironwork, towering ceilings, original doors and windows, amazing chandeliers. Only in special areas like the Garcia Gineres neighborhood can you find homes on large lots without the property line to property line type of density you see in Centro. Still you are within walking distance or a short taxi or Uber ride to the heart of that, more crowded, part of the city. Here too you have a roomy garage and plenty of street parking for your guests. So here you find easy access to Centro without its worst downside which is noise, traffic and lack of parking.
Built in the traditional style with all rooms symmetrically located off a grand, central hallway, this home feels spacious, airy and inviting. Three bedrooms (one king, one queen and one with twins that can be converted to a king) are located opposite one another and the living room at the front of the house with the master bedroom (king bed) along with the kitchen located off the long hallway at the rear. Two bedrooms, including the master, have private en suites and two share a “jack and jill-style” bathroom. Another full bath is next to the pool along with the laundry room.
Although there is lots of living space inside the home, it is the loggia facing the pool where most people seem to congregate. This lovely, covered “patio” is also a very traditional architectural element in Merida for obvious reasons. Comfortable seating allows guests to enjoy Merida’s sunny days and glorious nights.
